William Shakespeare s Macbeth - 1399 Words
William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢, resonates the damnation and inevitable dissolution of man in the face of compunction, facades and vaulting ambition. Through the use of dramatic irony, symbolism and soliloquies, Shakespeare denotes the happenings of a tragic hero who ambles on the verge between moral and immoral; the inception after which humanity cascades to pieces. Ultimately through this farrago of self-seeking divinations, disdainful desires, decimating machinations and an ultimate plunge from refinement, Shakespeare pinpoints that ââ¬Å"power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutelyâ⬠. Macbethââ¬â¢s subsequent reaction to the Prince of Cumberland, where he states that ââ¬Å"[Malcolm] is a step on which [he] must fall downâ⬠¦for in [his] way it liesâ⬠emphasises his ââ¬Å"vaulting ambitionâ⬠to ascend to the throne, unmasking the viewers to the plague of ambition. Shakespeare intentionally discloses the fall of a pious king in order to reveal the impeding guilt which the perpetrator dwells upon, prior to the carnage. ââ¬Å"Thou wouldst be great; art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend itâ⬠; Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s reaction to Macbethââ¬â¢s letter on his encounters, emphasises the well documented differences between Macbeth and herself in their attempts to ascend to the throne; as Macbethââ¬â¢s soft incentives clearly do not counterpart with her own darker impulses. Here the audience is revealed to two routes which could ultimately lead to the mirroring of their intents.
